Our Explorer Unit Tedburn and Cheriton Scout Group

Who are we?

  • Age: 14 - 18 years
  • Meet: 8pm - 9:30pm Thursdays

The Explorer Unit is actually run at a District level, with Mid Devon District divided into several smaller Units. The Mid Devon Tigers Unit meet at our meeting place and as Explorers they are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from Leaders. There is wide scope for activities like pioneering, cooking, caving, hiking and larger expeditions.

We encourage the Explorers to earn their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards though their schools so that we can build on those experiences to earn both their Chief Scout’s Diamond and Chief Scout’s Platinum Awards before they turn 18.

Explorer Scouts can also help out as Young Leaders at one of our other Sections and we are always thrilled when they choose to do so. We ensure that they have access to the training and support they need to make volunteering a success, whether it is just for 3 months as part of their DofE or for a longer period.

The Scout Association has produced a guide for parents, which you can download here: A Parent’s Guide to Explorers.

Uniform

Uniform can either be bought from the online Scout Store or from the Exeter Scout Store. If you’re not sure where to start, or could use a little help with uniform costs, fear not. Your Scout leader can chat to you about options. The most important thing when you first arrive is wearing something that you feel natural and comfortable in.
